Cairngorm to Coast in aid of the RAF Benevolent Fund.

Be prepared for a brand new challenge event coming to Moray! Cairngorm to Coast is a 24 hour team event and 2015 is the first year it’s happening. The event is being organised by Team RAFBF Lossiemouth in aid of the RAF Benevolent Fund

As ideas do, this one grew from a 23 mile walk to a 66 mile bike and hike (our apologies for that) and is now the only event of its type in its area, taking part on 23rd and 25th May.

So, what does this challenge involve?  Competitors will start at the Cairngorm Ski Centre carpark and walk up the path to the Cairngorm to Coast ChallengePtarmigan Centre, where they will then begin their descent into Coire na Ciste.  They will then follow a well defined path to Glenmore Lodge, on to Nethy Bridge where they will pick up the Speyside Way and then to Ballindalloch Castle.  There will be food and water stops along the way, as well as marshalls and access points for safety.

The second stage starts at Ballindalloch Castle, where competitors will have a chance to change clothes and get some food before getting on their mountain bikes and cycling the final 33 miles to RAF Lossiemouth along they Speyside Way, tracks and minor roads.

For the first year, there is very limited spaces, so if you are interested in taking part, please complete this registration of interest form.  Once we receive that form, we will send you a full registration form, medical questionnaire, sponsorship information and payment details.   Full event information packs will be sent out at the beginning of May, along with your race number.  A registration event will take place the evening before which will include a health and safety briefing and final information you will need for the next day.  There is an option for teams to split the bike and hike element 50/50, but please remember to ensure there are at least two team members taking part in each stage,

Due to its nature, this is an over 18’s only team challenge, with a minimum of two people in each team for safety reasons. Entry is £35 per person and we would ask for a minimum of £150 sponsorship for the RAF Benevolent Fund per person, Our aim is to raise £5,000 for the RAFBF, who are the RAF’s leading welfare charity and receive no government funding. They need to raise at least £21m per year to continue their support of our RAF personnel, their families and veterans.

Through their Bike Revolution charity, they are also able to offer bike hire at £20 for the day to those who do not own a suitable mountain or off road bicycle for the event. They are also able to offer some equipment, such as bike lights.

You will also receive a goody bag at the end of the event which will contact a competitor’s t-shirt, kindly supplied by one of ourDallas Designs Logo sponsors Dallas Designs Ltd .

If you have any questions regarding the event, please feel free to email, telephone Karen on 01343 813999 or use the contact form at the bottom of this blog.

To keep in touch with the banter of those taking part, please like our Cairngorm to Coast Facebook page.

We look forward to seeing you at the Cairngorm Ski Centre on 23rd May for the challenge of your lifetime!
